Despite the impact, COVID 19 has had on schools here at Rodillian our School Direct programme is carrying on as normal.

Interviews for September 2021/22 are taking place remotely via Microsoft TEAMS and are following the same processes as previous years.

During the pandemic, we have successfully supported our current cohort of trainees to adapt to the situation and progress towards meeting the teacher standards and gaining their PGCE and QTS qualifications. Trainees have been safely gaining school experience since September and have been able to carry on with all aspects of their training. During Lockdown, our trainees have taught students remotely, worked with form groups and gained face-to-face experience working with Key Worker students.

The Rodillian Multi Academy Trust Training Alliance

The Rodillian Multi Academy Trust Training Alliance are delighted to offer the opportunity to train through the School Direct initiative across a variety of secondary schools in Leeds, Featherstone and Selby. We believe in growing our own talented teaching leaders of the future, and investing in our staff through quality accredited programmes and coaching.

We believe that teachers should have the freedom to develop their own pedagogy as subject experts, and our programme will help you explore this using live research and proven methodologies. We have a nationally recognised behaviour system, which allows teachers to concentrate on ensuring the best possible outcomes for our young people. When you train with us, the behaviour system in all your placement schools is the same, so you can concentrate on developing your practice.

We are looking for ambitious and committed trainee teachers who are passionate about their subject, and have a desire to share their enthusiasm with young people either in a voluntary or school setting.

In conjunction with Leeds Trinity University and Leeds Beckett University, we have developed an exciting one-year programme which will give you the opportunity to experience schools in a range of contexts, gaining a PGCE at the end of the year. You will have two placements in different schools, ensuring that you gain experience in delivering lessons across all Key Stages in partnership with our expert teachers. While you are on placement, you will be treated as a full member of staff in all schools – but you will be supported by expert mentors, and have access to excellent professional development. During the year you will also complete training at a university, and complete Masters-level assignments.

Our placement schools

Our schools, all located in Leeds, Wakefield or Selby, are truly comprehensive, and will provide you with the opportunity to work with young people of all abilities and ages. We are currently offering placements at the following schools:

  • Rodillian Academy
  • BBG Academy
  • Featherstone Academy
  • Brayton Academy

Entry requirements

You should be a graduate, preferably with a 2:1 or a 1st class degree – although we will consider applications from candidates who demonstrate a real talent for teaching, and with a CV that demonstrates working with young people.

You should have a degree in which the majority of the content was in the chosen teaching subject. We will look carefully at all applications, and are happy to recommend successful candidates for a relevant Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course if appropriate.

How we select

The lead school, The Rodillian Academy, will coordinate the recruitment process in partnership with Leeds Trinity University and Leeds Beckett University. We will provide a range of selection activities, such as pupil panels, small group work, and a formal interview. This is designed to bring out potential in candidates, so that we can match applicants to places.

Our promise

We will provide you with a quality learning experience, in exciting learning environments, with dedicated training opportunities. However, a provision of a training place does not guarantee employment after the initial teaching qualification period. An offer of a training place is on condition that you pass the required literacy and numeracy tests.

How to apply

You can apply directly on UCAS under Rodillian Multi Academy Training Alliance.
