Annette taught English years 7 to 13 throughout her career, becoming Head of English and then Deputy Head at 2 high-performing secondary schools in the North East. In North Yorks she worked as Secondary English Adviser alongside the role of LA adviser to a group of primary schools.

In Leeds Annette led a school in very challenging circumstances moving from Special Measures to become one of the most improved schools in the region, achieving a ‘Good with Outstanding Leadership’ grading from Ofsted. Leading that school to become one of the first academies in the city, a second academy was added when Annette was appointed Executive Principal in 2012. Annette set up an Academy Trust adding a third school under the sponsorship of Leeds City College, serving as CEO before her retirement in 2016.

Annette has gained extensive Trust Board experience including serving on a single academy board, Chairing a MAT of 4 academies based in Ashton under Lyne, and serving on the Board of the (then) Leeds Metropolitan University.
